My best friend is tolling away in law school in Colorado, so between the super low temps and the long study hours she has probably replaced me with her local barista. For Valentine’s Day I thought I would send her a little care package and what better gift for a caffeine addict than this adorable Crochet Coffee Cup Cozy.
Before we start here are some helpful tips when following this pattern…
– Start your round in same stitch as chain.
– Always join your rounds to the first stitch and not the chain.
– Do not count the chain as a stitch.
Materials:
Red Worsted Weight Yarn (I prefer the Red Heart Super Saver brand)
Crochet Hook in Size I-9 (5.5 mm)
White Worsted Weight Yarn (Optional)
Abbreviations:
CH = chain
SL ST = slip stitch
SC = single crochet
HDC = half double crochet
Crochet Coffee Cup Cozy Pattern:
Using red yarn…
Round 1 | CH 25, SL ST to first CH to form ring.
Round 2 | CH 1, SC in each stitch around, SL ST into top of first single crochet (25 SC)
Round 3-8 | CH 2, HDC in each stitch around, slip stitch into top of first single crochet (25 DC)
Round 9 | CH 1, SC in each stitch around, slip stitch into top of first single crochet, fasten off (25 SC)
Finish | Weave in ends, cut a small heart out of felt and appliqué* it onto the cozy.
*I have found the easiest way to appliqué is by taking a strand of 4-ply yarn and separating it, so that you have two strands to use to stitch the heart onto the cozy.

Scalloped Edge
Step 1 | SL ST anywhere in the top of the cozy.
Step 2 | *In next stitch 5 SC, SL ST into next stitch, skip one stitch*, repeat from * a total of eight times (this video is extremely helpful, the video shows how to make a scallop with a DC, just replace the DC with SC for this pattern).
Step 3 | For the ninth scallop, in next stitch 5 SC, SL ST into the beginning stitch and fasten off. You should have a total of 9 scallops.
Step 4 | Repeat the above to edge the bottom of the cozy.
Here are a few photos from Instagram showing some variations you can do…
{personalize the heart with the recipients name}
{for longer names, simply add the first letter of the recipients name}
It is a lovely pattern. Perfect for Valentine’s Day
Thank you! They make a great gift, I usually purchase a Starbucks reusable mug and tuck a gift card inside, then I slip the cozy on the cup. Happy Crocheting!
