Flamingo Tote

Flamingos and Pineapples are taking over the world! I kind of work myself up into a tizzy every time I go shopping and spot one of my beloved (the beloved would be anything and everything emblazoned with a flamingo or pineapple). So when I spotted this adorable straw tote, I new just what is was missing…a flamingo! or a pineapple! The flamingo won this round, mostly because the mint handles combined with the hot pink paint I choose, created a color scheme reminded me of this sweater I have been lusting over for weeks #pleasegoonsalesoon

150 SUPPLY LIST
Straw Tote Bag (I purchased mine from the Dollar Spot at Target, similar here)
Flamingo Template
Freezer Paper
Fabric Paint (I used Martha Stewart Multi Surface Craft Paint in Party Streamers)
Foam Brush
Iron

150 TO CREATE

  1. Create a flamingo stencil, using the provided template, trace the image onto freezer paper and cut it out.
  2. Center the stencil on the tote and iron the freezer paper stencil, shiny side down, onto the tote.
  3. Place a piece of cardboard inside your tote, then using a foam brush and a pouncing method, apply paint to your tote.
  4. Allow the paint to dry and peel off the stencil.

I would never have thought of ironing the stencil on. Neat trick. I love how this turned out.

Thank you!! I just recently discovered the freezer paper stencil method and I cannot wait to try it out on more projects, I am thinking about doing an anchor sweatshirt.

I used Martha Stewart Multi Surface Craft Paint in Party Streamers, it is an acrylic paint, but it is formulated to work on a variety of surfaces.

Amazingly creative idea. The use of cardboard is so cute. I could use nail polish to add patterns. Thanks for sharing this diy idea.
