Last weekend I was invited to my friends annual crawfish boil. I didn’t want to show up empty handed, so I started brainstorming a cute gift idea for the hostess. I usually opt for a sweet treat the hosts can enjoy after the party or something that can be used during or after the party.
When you bring a hostess gift, your intention should always be for the hosts to use and enjoy it at their discretion, whether that is during or after the party is up to the hosts. In this case, my friend opened the bucket up immediately upon me gifting it to her and was excited to put the sparklers to good use once the sun set.

I found the cute bucket at Hobby Lobby and filled it with a bunch of sparklers and a box of vintage matches, then I wrapped everything up with cellophane, added a big white bow and attached a crawfish gift tag I hand painted.
You can’t go wrong with the bucket + sweet treat/fun activity/useful item + cute gift tag combo for hostess gifts! Below are a few more Summer Hostess Gift Ideas if you need an idea for a BBQ or party your attending this summer. I’d love to know your favorite hostess gift you given or received, let me know in the comments!

Summer Hostess Gift Formula
Bucket + Fun Activity/Sweet Treat + Cute Gift Tag
Choose whether you will gift your hosts a fun activity or a sweet treat. Then grab a bucket, a cute gift tag, a cellophane bag (these are my favorites – small and large) and add a big bow!
Summer Hostess Gift Ideas
S’mores Kit | This bucket filled with chocolate, square marshmallows, graham crackers and marshmallow forks topped with this gift tag.
Breakfast Basket | Instead of a bucket opt for a cute basket lined with a gingham napkin, add in scones (a mix, homemade or purchased from a local bakery) and jam, top with this gift tag.
Summer Fun | This bucket filled with bubbles, water balloons and squirt guns topped with a gift tag is the perfect gift if your host has small children.
Pool Party | This bucket filled with pool floats, floating drink holders and beach balls topped with this cute gift tag would be perfect for a host who has a pool.
Movie Night | This popcorn bucket filled with a Redbox gift card, movie candy and popcorn, then topped with this gift tag.
I linked items to give you an idea of what types of items to use, but I often pick things up at Hobby Lobby, my local grocery store and Home Goods and suggest you do the same to find all the things you need to create a summer hostess gift.
